Secretary Pompeo Sees North Korean Denuclearization in President Trump’s First Term

“Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he expects North Korea to take the major steps toward nuclear disarmament during Donald Trump’s first term,” Nick Wadhams reports for Bloomberg. Secretary Pompeo remains in Asia, arriving in Seoul today to brief American allies about the momentous Trump–Kim summit.

“With his historic summit Tuesday with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Trump has once again done something astounding and unpredictable,” former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich writes in Fox News. “President Trump has already accomplished more with North Korea than Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama combined. And this is just the beginning.”
------------
In The Hill, Katie Pavlich argues that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is the man for the job on North Korea. “Just as he played a central role leading up [to] the summit, his position will prove even more essential in the months and years to follow,” she writes. “Most importantly, he has President Trump’s trust.”
------------
In the Washington Examiner, Thomas Del Beccaro writes that President Trump’s North Korea deal is far more transparent than the previous administration’s Iran deal. “One of the deals has potential, the Iran deal never did. The Iran deal was a terrible deal from day one. The North Korea deal may well work.”
------------
In the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Pastor Darrell Scott writes that “President Donald Trump is quickly becoming one of the greatest civil rights presidents in modern history.” Pastor Scott notes that the President’s actions in his first 500 days include “supporting prison reform to empower millions of Americans to have a better chance after their incarceration, moving away from Clinton-era ‘superpredator’ policies.”
