Highlights
Road infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean faces growing risks from extreme weather events and the loss of natural capital that cannot be addressed through local solutions alone.
The IDB is advancing a new model of regenerative roads that integrates resilient infrastructure and nature-based solutions at the landscape scale.
The project being developed along Guatemala’s Northern Corridor (CA-9 North) demonstrates that this approach is viable and cost-effective, has significant potential for replication, and generates environmental, social, and economic benefits.

https://www.iadb.org/en/blog/labor-markets/caribbean-social-insurance-systems-when-parametric-reforms-are-not-enough
Main Highlights
Population aging, emigration, and exposure to economic and climate shocks are placing growing pressure on Caribbean social insurance systems.
Several schemes risk depleting their reserves in the coming decades, while high administrative costs and limited investment diversification persist.
Strengthening compliance, funding rules, oversight, and transparency is essential to protect current and future generations.

Amazonia’s bioeconomy holds the promise of turning biodiversity into sustainable growth, innovation, and local opportunities.
https://www.iadb.org/en/blog/regional-integration/science-opportunity-path-amazonias-bioeconomy
Highlights
Scientific knowledge can help turn Amazonia’s biological resources into new products, businesses, and stronger local value chains.
However, limited research capacity, financing gaps, and weak links between science, producers, and markets continue to hold back bioeconomy ventures.
Scaling the bioeconomy will require sustained investment in research and innovation, technology transfer, inclusive governance, and tailored financing—priorities highlighted at the III Annual Meeting of the Bioamazonia Network, with support from the IDB’s Amazonia Forever program.

Highlights
For Latin America and the Caribbean, the question is not whether to grow, but how to turn hard-won macroeconomic stability into sustained, broad-based growth.
LAC Crece goes beyond diagnosing binding constraints. It selects where to start, weighing growth impact, enabling conditions, the IDB Group's comparative advantage, and government ownership.
Growth creates fiscal, political, and institutional space for reform. Early, visible results build the credibility that sustains deeper, more durable structural change.

https://www.iadb.org/en/blog/gender-and-diversity/same-rules-same-results-call-research-proposals-regulation-fiscal-policy-and-economic-opportunities
Highlights
The same regulation can have different effects on women and men, even when it applies equally to everyone.
GDLab is launching a call for research proposals to better understand how regulation and fiscal policy can expand economic opportunities.
Evidence generated in the region can help inform more effective policies that expand economic opportunities.

Violence doesn't always start in the classroom, but school can be the best place to prevent it. The evidence shows why.
https://www.iadb.org/en/blog/education/violence-prevention-starts-school-what-evidence-says
Highlights
One in four adolescents aged 13 to 17 experiences school bullying. That violence affects how they learn, how long they stay in school, and the opportunities available to them for the rest of their lives.
The evidence shows that schools do more than improve learning. They can also reduce violence, build social-emotional skills, and change the life trajectories of millions of children and young people.
