Trump’s tax reform boosts optimism among manufacturers to record highs

Brittany De Lea reports for Fox Business that “optimism among American manufacturers is at record highs thanks to the after-effects of the GOP’s recently-implemented tax reform law,” according to a new survey from the National Association of Manufacturers. Even better news: Manufacturers anticipate wages will grow at their fastest pace in 17 years, the survey finds.

The Washington Examiner reports that “the number of people receiving unemployment benefits is running at the lowest level in 44 years,” according to new data from the Department of Labor. “Low jobless claims are a good sign for the economy,” Joseph Lawler writes. “They suggest that layoffs are rare . . . and that the recovery is headed toward more growth and more job creation.”

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker (R-TN) said he will “avidly support” President Trump’s nomination of CIA Director Mike Pompeo for Secretary of State, the Times Free Press reports. “I think you have the personal characteristics to lead the State Department in a way that generates the kind of culture and levers that we need around the world for active diplomacy,” Sen. Corker said of Pompeo.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson writes in The Virginian-Pilot that President Trump’s new tax law is helping the “historically neglected and distressed areas in our country, through a set of benefits offered to designated low-income communities called Opportunity Zones.” Secretary Carson explains that “these zones can help attract new businesses, and improve economic development and entrepreneurship, the lifeblood of our future.”
