America’s Unemployment Rate Falls to Its Lowest Level in Almost 50 Years

The U.S. unemployment rate is now 3.7 percent, the lowest it has been since December 1969, according to monthly employment figures released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Payroll employment also continued its historic streak of positive monthly jobs gains, and average weekly wages continued to rise in September.
“On this Manufacturing Day, Americans around the country can celebrate the growing manufacturing revival due to the tireless efforts of President Donald J. Trump and those in his Administration,” Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross writes in CNBC. Under President Trump, “year-over-year manufacturing job growth in 2018 increas[ed] at the fastest rate since 1995.”
“Mrs. Trump is sending a powerful message by selecting the continent of Africa to embark upon her first major multi-country solo foreign trip as the first lady,” White House East Wing historian Jennifer Boswell Pickens writes in The Daily Caller. “The message is clear: She wants to address challenging and substantive issues both domestically and abroad. She is secure in her position and willing to spend her own political capital to take a stand for causes she cares about.”
“Few Americans would say that they’re actually sick of winning, but you can add one more positive report to the recent run of upbeat readings on the nation’s economy,” James Freeman writes in The Wall Street Journal. “NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg says that a record 37% of small businesses in September ‘reported raising overall compensation in hopes of hiring and retaining needed employees.’”
“The Trump administration, in a frenzy to kill Obama-era regulations and beyond, more than doubled its savings goal and is on a pace to make record cuts to rules the president claims are jobs killers,” Paul Bedard reports for the Washington Examiner. “The administration achieved $1.65 billion in regulatory savings, miles above its goal of $687 million,” a new independent report shows.
“President Trump is all-action on prison reform. The Democrats? All-talk. In a matter of months, the president has done more for prison reform than Democrats managed to do in many, many years,” Pastor Darrell Scott writes in The Washington Times. “Unlike the all-talk-no-action Democrats, President Trump is actually fulfilling his promises, fighting to reform a system for those punished with harsh and excessive prison terms, and helping to integrate Americans who have already served their time back into their communities.”
