SLAVERY WORLDWIDE

Hi,
You know how it is. There’s so much that needs changing in the world, it’s hard to know where to start. In between just getting through the day and being bombarded with depressing news reports, it can be hard to dig a little deeper and take action.

What if you could do something to make a real change in the lives of the millions of men, women and children trapped in slavery worldwide?

You’ve probably never heard of the new Forced Labour Protocol. It’s not in any of the rolling news reports. It doesn’t have celebrity endorsement and it’s definitely never trended on Twitter. It’s a tough new international law against forced labour that updates old legal protections drafted in 1930! Slavery has changed enormously since then so it’s an important weapon in our fight to end slavery today.
It’s not the catchiest of names and it doesn't do justice to what this law could really mean for those who have been trafficked or who are living in slavery in the agricultural sector, domestic work and the sex industry. It means that governments have to draw up an action plan to prevent forced labour, as well as safeguarding vulnerable migrant workers against exploitative recruitment practices.

Governments are avoiding signing the Protocol because they think that it’s too abstract and dull for people like us to take notice.

What if we say they are wrong? Call on your government to update international protections for victims of forced labour to help end slavery today.

Forced Labour Protocol. It may sound boring, but we know it matters.

Victoria, Jayde, Eugenia and the rest of the Walk Free team.
