China vs the Uyghurs

Sign the Petition

It's horrific -- 1 million Uyghurs are being detained by China, subject to 24-hour surveillance, torture, rape, and even forced sterilisation! But not everybody in the Chinese government agrees with the Uyghur policy! High-ranking Chinese politicians, business people and the elite are very sensitive to what the rest of the world says about them -- and 1 million signatures now, delivered directly to China's biggest government and corporate partners across the world, could force Chinese leaders to drop this dreadful policy. Let's do it -- add your name now.

Dear friends,

China has imprisoned 1 million ethnic minority Uyghurs, using the same tactics they used in Tibet: forced detention and re-education, beatings, and even torture!

But it doesn't need to be this way.

Not everybody in the Chinese government agrees with the Uyghur policy -- leaked classified documents about the atrocities have shaken the government, triggering China to undertake a mass PR campaign in key countries to ensure it has international support.

High-ranking Chinese politicians, business people and the elite are very sensitive to what the rest of the world says about them. And if we launch an urgent global appeal to free the Uyghurs, there's a chance they could drop this dreadful policy.

Add your name now -- let's get 1 signature for every one of the Uyghur men, women and children detained, and do all we can to free them:

Free the Uyghurs

Beijing has felt threatened by minorities for decades. 1.2 million Tibetans were killed since the 1990s for praying differently, and now they're going after Uyghurs on the pretext that they pose a terrorist threat -- steadily going from caution to control, to repression, and now mass incarceration and indoctrination. People are forced to forget their culture, faith, and language -- some of the kids are forced to forget about their parents!

China is the 2nd most powerful country on Earth. From biodiversity to climate, human rights and economic development -- they're part of every decision on the planet that affects billions! The China of the 2020s can be different from the China of the 1990s that cracked down on the Tibetans.

The complicity of the rest of the world is appalling: practically every country on Earth does business with China these days, pension funds are throwing billions at  Chinese surveillance tech firms, and Western companies operate with cheap labor in the region. Even Muslim countries are supporting China's incarceration policy -- all because they're afraid of losing China's precious money.

Our global community can be the game-changer -- and show the world, and China, that we won't allow this to happen in 2020! Add your name now and join the movement to free the Uyghurs:

Free the Uyghurs
Time and again our community has stood with brave minority groups fighting for their right to exist. From the indigenous in the Amazon to the Massai people in Kenya, we have many times amplified their voices. Let's do it again, this may be the only chance of survival of millions of Uyghurs and their children in China. Join now.

With hope and determination,

Diego, Meetali, Luis, Will, Huitheng, Nataliya, Mike, and the rest of the Avaaz team
