President Donald Trump wants employers to include less-regulated — and often risky — investments like cryptocurrency and private equity in 401(k) plans. To make that happen, Trump’s assistant secretary at the Department of Labor is proposing to loosen regulations and make it harder for workers to hold employers liable.
A Department of Labor spokesperson defended the proposal, saying that the department believes retirement savers stand to benefit from access to alternative investments and that 401(k) plans will be better as a result.
