The Day Ahead
President Donald J. Trump will meet with labor union leaders at the White House.
ICE successfully removes Nazi camp guard
Overnight, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out a 2004 order of deportation for Jakiw Palij, a former Nazi SS labor camp guard in German-occupied Poland. After World War II, Palij lied about being a Nazi and became a resident of Queens, New York.
Through extensive negotiations, President Trump and his team secured Palij’s deportation to Germany. Despite the 2004 removal order, past administrations were unsuccessful in expelling Palij from America.
To protect the promise of freedom for Holocaust survivors and their families, President Trump prioritized the removal of Palij. His long-overdue deportation sends a strong message: The United States will not tolerate those who facilitated Nazi crimes and other human rights violations, and they will not find a safe haven on U.S. soil.
Saving 40+ states from high energy costs
It’s a myth that the United States cannot lower emissions while promoting American energy dominance on the world stage. But the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) sacrificed affordable, competitive energy in favor of bureaucratic red tape.
The Trump Administration is proposing the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) Rule to restore the proper role of states under the Clean Air Act. Under the Obama CPP, working- and middle-class families would’ve been hit with higher electricity costs—as much as double-digit price increases in 40 states. Partly as a result, a bipartisan majority of Congress formally disapproved of the CPP.
The new ACE Rule, on the other hand, proposes new emissions guidelines while giving states flexibility in how to achieve them. That will allow different parts of the country to construct diverse, reliable energy portfolios that best fit their specific needs.
