Transmission Impossible: Unlocking Finance for Electrification Date & Time November 10, 2026 03:00 AM - 04:00 AM ET 11:00 AM-12:00 PM UTC+3, TRT (Turkey Time)

https://www.worldbank.org/en/events/2026/11/10/transmission-impossible-financing-the-grid Transmission Impossible: Unlocking Finance for Electrification Join experts to discuss how financing transmission infrastructure can support reliable power, economic growth, and energy security. Date & Time November 10, 2026 03:00 AM - 04:00 AM ET 11:00 AM-12:00 PM UTC+3, TRT (Turkey Time) Reliable, affordable electricity depends on strong transmission networks. Yet in many developing countries, a lack of transmission infrastructure is slowing electrification and limiting the ability to connect new sources of power to the grid. Meeting demand will require transmission investment to double to about $70 billion a year, far beyond what public finance and development institutions can support on their own. This session will explore how countries such as Brazil and India have attracted private investment in transmission through proactive planning, clear regulation, well-structured projects, and innovative financing approaches. Participants will also hear emerging lessons from Mission 300 in Africa. Drawing on the new World Bank Group report, Transmission Impossible: Success Factors for Independent Power Transmission Projects, the discussion will examine what it takes to scale private investment and expand access to reliable electricity. As part of the World Bank Group's COP31 program, the session will highlight practical solutions for building the transmission networks needed to support reliable, affordable power systems.
