President Trump to California: We have your back

This weekend, President Donald J. Trump visited California to survey damage from the recent deadly wildfires. Meeting with residents whose lives have been forever changed, President Trump’s message was clear: We are with you.

During times like these, our Nation’s first responders take on the toughest jobs. While on the ground in Malibu, California, President Trump took time to thank these heroes for their service. “The men and women that are fighting this fire are incredible,” the President said.

The Administration wasted no time responding to the crisis. On November 9, the President issued an emergency declaration for the State of California, ordering Federal assistance to supplement State, local, and tribal response efforts. The Federal-wide response has included the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Interior, U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) said Sunday that President Trump [told] him that he has California's back,” Megan Keller reported for The Hill. “The president not only has signed a presidential declaration giving California substantial funding, but he said and pledged very specifically to — to continue to help us," Gov. Brown said.

America’s highest civilian honor

On Friday, President Trump presented seven incredible Americans with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, an honor reserved for those who have made outstanding contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

This year’s recipients certainly fit that bill: Sen. Orrin Hatch, the late Justice Antonin Scalia, Miriam Adelson, Roger Staubach, Alan Page, and two other American legends who are no longer with us—Babe Ruth and Elvis Presley.
