The Fragility Forum 2026 (FF2026) takes place amid a rapidly evolving fragility, conflict, and violence (FCV) landscape. FCV affects countries at all levels of income with widespread effects on development and poverty reduction. In 2024, for the first time, FCV-affected countries accounted for over half of the people living in extreme poverty. Moreover, the decades-long global decline in extreme poverty is now projected to reverse by 2030 because of the growing number of extreme poor in FCV-affected countries.
In response to this evolving landscape, the World Bank Group (WBG) is refreshing its FCV Strategy to be more effective in FCV settings. Building on lessons learned, the Strategy identifies the need for strategic shifts towards better anticipation of FCV risks, stronger differentiation of development programming in accordance with the potential for lasting impact in different FCV settings, and more effective engagement on jobs in FCV. It also recognizes that the WBG will need to evolve its own systems and operations to enable these shifts.
Translating strategic ambition into lasting impact in FCV settings, however, ultimately depends on how effectively partners align their efforts, share knowledge, and coordinate action on the ground. FF2026 will provide an opportunity for the global community working on FCV to collectively reflect on how to best address rising FCV challenges in this evolving global landscape.
