Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were connected to Russia's grid until Saturday. The transition to electricity from the European Union is another sign of confidence in the EU, turning the page on their Soviet past.

Baltic states disconnect from Russian electricity grid

On Saturday, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania disconnected from the electricity supply grid shared with Russia and Belarus. The three countries haven't bought electricity from Russia since the start of the Ukraine war, but remained connected to the grid. They will now switch to the European Union's system.
