Clashes and confusion mar attempt at cease-fire in Syria

Clashes continued on and off in the vicinity of a strategic Syrian border town, despite President Donald Trump hailing the cease-fire, announced on Thursday night by Vice President Mike Pence, as “an incredible outcome.”

Fighting broke out in the morning hours in the Syrian border town which has been a flashpoint in the fight between Turkey and Kurdish forces despite a U.S.-brokered cease-fire that went into effect overnight. The fighting died down in mid-morning. (AP)
