Nearly three-quarters of FCS economies have remained classified as such for over a decade, highlighting the persistence of their challenges and underlying fragility. Limited fiscal space further constrains these economies from responding to shocks and investing in essential services such as education, health, and infrastructure. © 2025 World Bank Group.

Radical Debt Transparency Report This page in:English © 2025 World Bank Group.

The Radical Debt Transparency report—an update to 2021’s Debt Transparency in Developing Countries—shows that despite significant improvements in recent years, major debt transparency deficiencies continue to plague many developing countries. As the global financing environment tightens, several governments are turning to off-budget and increasingly complex debt instruments such as collateralized loans, private placements, and central bank swaps, that risk giving rise to new hidden debts. Gaps in legislative frameworks, institutional fragmentation, and limited oversight can contribute to debt reporting challenges, as seen in recent experiences. Transparency in debt restructuring processes also remains uneven. This report calls for a radical shift toward debt transparency as critical to debt sustainability, urging legislative reforms, stronger oversight of unconventional debt, broader loan-level reporting, and greater use of automation and reconciliation tools. https://www.worldbank.org/en/publication/2025-debt-transparency-report?intcid=ecr_hp_headerA_en_ext © 2025 World Bank Group.

A growing number of studies finds evidence that workers do not want the jobs available to them, especially formal low-skilled jobs such as factory work. We argue that at least some of this “low” labor supply is itself a consequence of the conditions associated with poverty”. They provide a variety of stats showing how many people don’t want wage jobs, quit them at high rates if they do take them, and are absent a lot of the time if they don’t quit! They discuss issues like the volatility of household shocks, cultural and network demands, and more as reasons. © 2025 World Bank Group.

https://blogs.worldbank.org/en/latinamerica/empleo-turismo-caribe Tourism is more than an industry in the Caribbean; it’s a way of life, an economic backbone, and, for many, a ticket out of poverty. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism contributed an average of 11.4 percent to the region’s GDP in 2023 and supported over 2.75 million jobs, accounting for 15.1 percent of total employment in the Caribbean. It also plays a pivotal role in driving employment for women and youth. In St. Lucia, for example, more than 55 percent of young workers (ages 15-24) are employed in tourism. Women in the Caribbean account for 57-70 percent of the workforce in accommodation and food services, well above the global average of 54 percent. © 2025 World Bank Group.

Low HDI countries continue to diverge from very high HDI countries (figure below), while skipping the kinds of structural transformation that run through manufacturing, by having employment move straight from agriculture to services rather than shifting to manufacturing in between. © 2025 World Bank Group.

The Middle East, "Center of the World," According to the Meta-Analysis of "Trump of Arabia" and His Holy Alliance with the GCC by Alfredo Jalife-Rahme Voltaire Network | Mexico City (Mexico) | 21 May 2025

The Middle East, "Center of the World," According to the Meta-Analysis of "Trump of Arabia" and His Holy Alliance with the GCC by Alfredo Jalife-Rahme Alfredo Jalife, one of the greatest geopoliticians of our time, asserts in La Jornada that President Donald Trump has just shaken up politics and the balance of power in the Middle East. While decoupling the United States from Israel, he declared that the Middle East now constitutes the "center of the world." According to him, Trump is ensuring the economic survival of the United States by allying the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with US transnational corporations. Washington will now deploy its forces around these oil monarchies, and no longer around the Jewish state. The Israel-Iran Relations That Were Hidden From You Israel - Iran: The Confrontation by Thierry Meyssan The confrontation between Israel and Iran does not at all correspond to the image presented by the media. Its roots lie in a period before the Islamic Republic and has no connection with the construction of a nuclear bomb. Its outbreak today is intended to conceal the misdeeds of the Argentinian Rafael Grossi, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Unspoken Aspects of Iran’s Nuclear Program by Thierry Meyssan Voltaire Network | Paris (France) | 27 June 2025 عربي Deutsch ελληνικά Español français italiano Nederlands Português русский

The Unspoken Aspects of Iran’s Nuclear Program by Thierry Meyssan The implications of Iran’s nuclear program are not what we think. Tehran renounced the atomic bomb in 1988, but is attempting, with Russia’s cooperation, to discover the secrets of nuclear fusion. If it succeeds, it would help the Southern states decolonize by freeing themselves from oil. As for the implications of the bombing of certain Iranian nuclear sites by the United States, they may also not be what we think. This affair is all the more opaque because it is not possible today to establish a clear distinction between research on civilian nuclear fusion and military fusion.
